The Chez Artiste has a great repertoire. Lots of art-house hits play here that play nowhere else. In addition, the Chez Artiste is one of the few theaters that will actually put real butter on your popcorn (others are The Esquire, The Mayan, and the Crossroads Commons).
The bad news is that the theaters are getting old. The smallish screens sit in front of aging, rickety seats. In my opinion, this theater is comparable to the infamous Arapaho Village theaters in Boulder.
I got the following update from someone at the Chez in August: 2002:
"We just spent a significant amount of money upgrading our small screening room with a new projector and great sound (from Stereo sound to Dolby surround sound). Great improvements that were just completed a week ago!
Also, we are the only movie theatre in the metro area that features local artists work (oils, watercolors, pastels, photography, etc.) on a monthly basis in our lobby FOR FREE!!! A great way for us to support the local art community and change our lobby 'look' several times a year!"
