We asked our writers for their top ten lists for 2008. We weighted those lists by the number of stories submitted by each writer, the “currentness” of those stories, and by rankings within the lists of the individual writers.
Below are the raw data that went into making our Top Ten of 2008, followed by the individual contributions from our 5 contributing writers.Thirty-three Nominees
Individual Lists
Here are the raw top-ten lists, as they arrived in Movie Habit HQ’s inbox.
Matt Anderson
Awards season was a major bust this year, so thankfully my heroes – Bono, Bruce, and Henry – salvaged the year for me.
- The Dark Knight (“The feel good movie of the year.”)
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (I make no apologies. This one entertains me to no end and repeatedly finds its way back into my Blu-ray player.)
- U2 3D (My idea of going to church – in 3D!)
- Changeling (Accountability. One of my favorite topics.)
- Man on Wire (A sweet, intimate documentary about a New York we’ll never see again.)
- In Bruges (Mean spirited and liking it.)
- Tropic Thunder (A comedy about making movies that’s actually funny!)
- O’Horten (A tender, personal movie from Norway.)
- The Brothers Bloom (Quirky heist/romance from a Denverite.)
- The Singing Revolution (Get up, stand up for your rights.)
John Adams
The funny thing is that these are the only films on the list that I saw this year. They are arranged in alphabetical order but they are exactly in reverse order of Top-Ten-ness by my reckoning. That may or may not mean anything.
