Living Out Loud

Richard LaGravenese is one of the best screenwriters around. Most recently, he wrote the frustrating, yet uncannily realistic arguments between mother and daughter in The Horse Whisperer.Living Out Loud (written and directed by LaGravenese) is well written and well acted; Danny DeVito and Holly Hunter play two lonely city-dwellers looking for love and sex. None of the characters seem to know exactly what they want, which is uncommon in a movie, but all too common in life. Rapper Queen Latifah gives an outstanding performance as a friend of Hunter’s. Unfortunately, it never all quite comes together as an impressive, satisfying whole.
